Why It Doesn’t Make Sense to Consume Whey Protein Isolate

Yep. That’s right. Whey Isolate is NOT the way to go.

“Wait a minute, ” you’re saying. “I thought whey protein isolate was the purest form of whey out there, and it delivers the most protein per serving.”

Well, I’m here to tell you that you haven’t been given the whole story.

Whey isolate may contain more protein per serving than whey concentrate, but the protein in whey isolate is denatured rendering it less bio-available. So, yeah, you might be getting more protein, but you aren’t getting protein that your body can use.

And as far as Whey isolate being more pure than whey concentrate, well that’s just complete nonsense.

Whey Isolate is INFERIOR to Whey Concentrate

Whey isolate is completely useless from a health perspective.

It really doesn’t matter if the whey protein is cold-processed cross-flow microfiltered with the most technologically advanced equipment in the world if the whey is an isolate.

Whey protein isolate is not natural! The human body has not adapted to utilize and assimilate protein in an isolated form.

Let me give you a few reasons why whey isolate is inferior to whey concentrate

1. Whey Isolate is Missing Important Nutritional Co-Factors

In simple terms a whey protein isolate is just a whey protein concentrate without fat and nutritional cofactors.

In nature, protein is always found as a concentrate. This means that all the healthy cofactors needed to properly utilize food are present in the food.

Take a sunflower for instance. A sunflower contains all  the nutritional cofactors needed for the human body to most effectively assimilate the sunflower and use it for energy.

When food has been altered however, and the nutritional cofactors have been stripped away (including the fat), then the body can’t use the food how it needs and wants to use it.

This is the exact problem we have  with a whey protein isolate.

The human body can’t utilize whey protein isolate effectively, because it is missing the important nutritional cofactors needed to assimilate the protein.

Also, protein is acidic by nature, and it is the nutritional cofactors that help to balance the acidic nature of protein. Many of the nutritional cofactors that are present in whey concentrate, especially minerals like magnesium and calcium, help to alkalize the body so that it does not go into an overly acidic state.

At extremes, becoming overly acidic could lead to a condition known as metabolic acidosis. This is dangerous conditions which leads to many health problems.

Without nutritional cofactors, the problem of over acidicity becomes very real.

2. Whey Isolate is Missing the Fat

Fat isn’t just a source of calories. Fat plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy body. Fat promotes healthy hormone regulation, is  a potent body-fat burner(Yep! Fat can help you burn fat!) and  immune enhancer, and is excellent source of antioxidants.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg with regard to all of the wonderful benefits of fat.

3. How do they get the whey protein to an isolate form?

-Hint: It’s Not Healthy…

Well from my research there is one primary method that is used to process whey isolate. That method is a process that uses acid to separate the protein from the fat.


This harmful chemical process denatures the whey protein making it completely useless to the human body.

Even if this harsh method isn’t used, there are still more reasons to avoid isolate.

4. Whey Isolate is Devoid of Many Health Benefits

If you consume Whey Isolate then you are missing out on some powerful health promoting properties.

Take a look at just some of things which are  greatly reduced or completely absent in Whey isolate:

    • CLA
    • Phospholipids
    • Phosphatidylserine
    • IgG Immunoglobulins
    • glutamine
    • cystein
    • lipoic acid

Go with the Concentrate

So if you opt for the whey isolate instead of the whey concentrate, not only are you giving up the many health benefits from the fat  and nutritional co-factors in the concentrate, you are also wasting your money on acid processed, denatured protein that is nowhere near natural.

You want the health benefits including the increased muscle mass and decreased body fat that whey protein can deliver, right? Well when choosing a product, make sure to go for the concentrate instead of the isolate.
